Protext Mobility Expands Product Suite to Deliver Safe Driving Solution in ... - Insurance News Net (press release)

Company Leverages Core Technology to Develop Transportation Safety Application for Android and BlackBerry Smartphones

SYOSSET, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Protext Mobility, Inc. (OTCBB:TXTM), a developer of innovative messaging applications and trusted solutions for the mobile communications market, today announced it has developed a safe driving solution for Android and BlackBerry based smartphones. The company has leveraged its core technology platform to expand its product suite and plans to launch the solution just as the summer driving season commences. Distracted driving has become a clear danger for drivers, as many people, particularly teens, carry their devices with them at all times, and are tempted to talk, text, or surf while driving. The issue has reached priority level on the political front, as well, with lawmakers around the country pushing to tighten restriction on using electronics at the wheel.

Distracted driving plays a part in one out of every four motor vehicle crashes. That is more than 1.5 million collisions a year and 4,300 crashes daily, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition, The National Safety Council estimates that nearly 30 percent of traffic accidents involve drivers using their cellphones or texting. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood recently stated, “Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on America’s roads” and according to the United States Department of Transportation, in 2009 5,500 people were killed and an additional 448,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes that were reported by police to have involved distracted driving. The government estimates that 18 percent of these deaths and five percent of these injuries involved cellphones. The under-20 age group had the highest proportion of distracted drivers involved in fatal crashes (16%). Additionally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports those drivers who use handheld devices are four times more likely to cause a serious injury crash than those who don’t.

“The data cited above is quite clear; timely and innovative solutions are needed to help promote safer driving habits,” explains Robert Mumford, Vice President of Sales and Strategic Partnerships for Protext Mobility. “We are pleased to deliver a safe driving solution to help combat this national epidemic and are excited to enter a new market that leverages our core competencies. By adding a safe driving solution to our product suite we are able to leverage the range and depth our technology platform has to offer while at the same time answering the call of the marketplace to introduce and deploy robust, innovative solutions efficiently.”

The safe driving solution, currently in final beta testing, will be commercially available in the coming weeks.
